The technology
The leading concept uses electrochromism: a reversible material response controlled by a low electrical signal. The exact yarn architecture is still being evaluated.

Removable electronics apply a small, current-limited signal. The wearer is not used as ground or as part of the circuit.
The active material changes which wavelengths it absorbs and reflects, so the visible colour changes under ambient light.
This is closer to a responsive dye than a television. It may hold a colour state with little power, but transitions are slower and the available palette is more limited than an RGB display.
Our project
The ambition is not simply to demonstrate a laboratory colour change. It is to develop a textile system that fashion designers can integrate, people can comfortably wear and technicians can safely service.
The technology should support the garment—not turn the garment into a rigid screen.
The colour effect should remain visible in normal ambient light, without bright LEDs.
Power and control electronics should be removable, replaceable and kept separate from the body.
Skin isolation, current limiting, washability and durability must be verified before release.

Early applications should use a focused textile area and an intentional visual transition—not promise an entire animated wardrobe.
A controlled colour accent with fewer washing and full-body comfort constraints.
Targeted areas that influence an existing textile rather than replacing the whole garment.
Deliberate visual transitions where expressive value matters more than rapid animation.

Lunoed is in an early phase. Public communication will separate what research has demonstrated from what our own material and garment system has verified.

Questions, answered honestly
No. The project focuses on reflective colour change. Ambient light reaches the textile and selected wavelengths are reflected back to your eyes. The goal is a material expression, not video playback.
Yes. A small removable control and power module is expected. Electrochromic systems can use most of their energy while switching, but real battery life must be measured on the final material.
No. The textile must contain its own complete electrical path. The wearer is never intended to become part of the circuit.
Those are design requirements, not finished-product claims. The material will need verified electrical, chemical, skin-contact, bending and wash testing before consumer use.
Not with the current concept. Early products are more likely to offer a small, intentional palette and slower transitions. Honest constraints can still create a distinctive fashion effect.
There is no release date yet. Lunoed is currently a research and development project, moving from technology mapping toward physical material tests.
